Henry County

Dotted with orchards, family farms, and plenty of green spaces, Henry County is a perfect camping destination for fun-seeking families and Indiana RV travelers. Along with the tranquil and charming surroundings you’ll find here, there is an endless variety of fun things to see and do – from world-class motorsports and basketball history, to U-pick farms and horseback riding.
The three most notable destinations in the county, New Castle (the county seat), Knightstown, and Middletown, are located along the Big Blue River. Most communities in the area are also located within 45 minutes of downtown Indianapolis and are accessible by nearly a dozen highways – including the “All-American National Road” (Route 40).
The oldest federally funded road in the United States, the National Road offers visitors a tour of one our nation’s most historic arteries. Why not take the opportunity to travel Indiana (plus Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland) on the same route folks did in the 1800s?
Collectors of ephemera and history lovers alike will marvel at the many local antique shops, museums, and historic sites throughout the area. Henry County is rich in Civil War and aviation history, national roadway lore, and – of course, one of America’s greatest pastimes - basketball.
For the hoopsters out there, Henry County is truly a must-visit. The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is located in New Castle, and lots of basketball related attractions and events can be found throughout the region. You can even tour the gym in Knightstown where scenes from the movie Hoosiers were filmed.
